Press Release Summary: The days of starting up a website and then sitting back waiting for people to find it are long gone. Scratch that; those days still exist. Rather, what are long gone are the chances of anyone actually finding that site if it has not been given a thorough SEO facelift.
Press Release Body: TORONTO, CA - December 4, 2007 - The days of starting up a website and then sitting back waiting for people to find it are long gone. Scratch that; those days still exist. Rather, what are long gone are the chances of anyone actually finding that site if it has not been given a thorough SEO facelift. That is according to entrepreneurship Evan Carmichael. "The rise of search engines like Google has changed the name of the game for anyone and everyone who's online," he says. "Before, websites might have just needed a little 'je ne sais quoi' to make them stand out. Today, they need a little SEO." SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it is the process of enabling a website to be well crawled and indexed by the likes of Google in order that it shows up higher in search results and more people can find it. "Roughly 90 percent of Internet users will never look past the first page of a search engine's results," says Carmichael. "That means that if you're not ranking on the first page for your keywords, you're losing a massive amount of traffic and potential customers." SEO may be essential, but it is not difficult, he suggests. What is difficult is finding the right advice for your site. "In recent years, SEO has exploded as a popular topic for bloggers. But quantity can sometimes get in the way of quality." And that is why Carmichael has compiled his list of the Top 50 SEO Posts of 2007. It is a list that combines advice from long-time SEO bloggers and newbies alike, but all of them offer something valuable: "knowledge." "We scoured the Internet to find the very best SEO posts of the past year," says Carmichael. "If you're looking to take your website to the top, these posts might just be your ticket. They're insightful, practical, well-written, and you can start using them today!" On the list are posts by veteran bloggers such as Aaron Wall and Danny Sullivan. There are also posts by bloggers who might not be as well known now, but Carmichael says it is only a matter of time.
"Whether you're looking to find out how to use Meta tags, what kinds of links you should be going after, or how to avoid getting your website banned by Google, these posts will have your answers," says Carmichael. "From advanced techniques to the beginner's basics, these guys will help get your site optimized for search engine success."
The Top 50 list also goes on to cover such topics as nofollow links, paid links, anchor text, and understanding "The Google."
Especially for new online entrepreneurs, Carmichael warns of the dangers in thinking that all it takes to succeed is good content. "Virtually speaking, it's a jungle out there," he says. "Trying to rank high on search engines can be a complex task, but one that these posts can help simplify - and without spending thousands of dollars in the process."
